Delete your account

You can delete your dosya.dev account yourself, from any of our apps or from the web.

How to delete your account

Deletion is self-service. You do not need to contact us.

  • iOS or Android: open the app, go to Settings, then Profile, then Delete account.
  • Web: sign in at app.dosya.dev, open Profile, then Delete account.
  • Desktop: open Profile, then Danger zone, then Delete my account.

We email you a 6-digit code and ask you to enter it. That step exists because a signed-in session is exactly what someone would have if they picked up your unlocked laptop, and the email is also the only warning you would get if that happened.

You have 30 days to change your mind

Confirming does not erase anything immediately. Your account is scheduled for deletion 30 days later, every session is signed out, and any paid subscription is cancelled so you are not billed during that time.

Sign in again at any point before that date and choose Cancel deletion. After the date passes, the deletion runs and your files cannot be recovered - not by you and not by us.

What is deleted

  • Your files and folders, including everything in your trash, and the stored objects behind them.
  • Every workspace you own that nobody else is a member of.
  • Your sessions, API keys, connected accounts, devices and two-factor settings.
  • Your share links, file requests, comments, favourites and notifications.
  • Your encryption keys, which means Vault content becomes permanently unreadable.
  • Your account itself.

What is kept, and why

A small amount of data outlives the account, for reasons we would rather state plainly than bury:

  • Files you uploaded into someone else's workspace. Those belong to that workspace, and removing them would delete another person's data because you closed your account. They stay, attributed to "Deleted user".
  • Billing and tax records. Invoices and plan changes are kept where law requires us to keep them.
  • Security and audit logs. These record actions taken on the service and are tamper-evident by design, so they cannot be selectively rewritten. Keeping them is also what stops an account being used to erase the record of what it did.

If you own a workspace with other people in it

We will not let you delete your account while you own a workspace that other members are still in, because that would destroy their files as a side effect. Transfer the workspace to another member, or remove the members, and then delete your account. Both actions are available in every app.

Cannot access your account?

If you have lost access and cannot sign in to delete the account yourself, use the password reset on the sign-in screen first. If that does not work, contact us from the email address on the account and we will help you.
